Tiger Eye is a variety of quartz that forms through a process called pseudomorphism: blue Crocidolite (asbestos) fibers are slowly replaced by quartz while retaining their fibrous structure, creating the silky, chatoyant effect known as "cat's eye" or "tiger's eye" shimmer. The golden color comes from iron oxide. Major sources include South Africa, Brazil, and Australia. Tiger Eye has been used as a protective talisman for thousands of years — Roman soldiers wore it in battle for courage and protection.
