Pink Opal from Peru is a variety of common opal (not precious opal) found in the Andes mountains. Its soft pink color comes from the presence of quinones — organic compounds derived from ancient plant material that became incorporated into the opal during its formation. Peruvian Pink Opal is sometimes called "Andean Opal" and is one of the most beloved varieties for its consistent, gentle color and energy. It's relatively soft (hardness of 5.5–6.5) and should be kept away from harsh chemicals and prolonged sun exposure.
