Found exclusively in the Karelia region of Russia, it's an ancient carbon-based mineral estimated to be over 2 billion years old, containing unique molecular structures called fullerenes that don't exist in any other natural mineral. Shungite is found only in the Shungsky district of Karelia, Russia — near Lake Onega, where it was first discovered in the 18th century. It's estimated to be approximately 2 billion years old, predating most life on Earth. Its unique carbon structure includes fullerenes (C60 molecules, also called "Buckyballs") — a form of carbon that wasn't discovered in a laboratory until 1985, earning its discoverers the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Shungite is the only known natural mineral to contain fullerenes.

Raw Shungite is especially powerful placed near electronic devices, in water (for purification — use Elite/Noble Shungite for drinking water), or in any space where you want to clear and protect the energy field. It's also a wonderful grounding stone to hold during meditation or place at the base of your altar. Note: Raw Shungite may leave black residue on hands — this is normal and can be rinsed off easily.
