Peruvian Blue Opal is found in the Andes mountains of Peru — one of the only places in the world where this particular variety occurs. Its soft blue-green color comes from copper inclusions within the opal's silica structure. Unlike precious opal (which displays a play of color), Peruvian Blue Opal is a common opal with a consistent, matte to waxy luster. It's relatively soft (hardness of 5.5–6.5) and should be kept away from harsh chemicals and prolonged sun exposure.
