Mookaite (also spelled Mookite or Mookalite) is a variety of radiolarian chert found exclusively in the Kennedy Ranges of Western Australia. It forms from the skeletal remains of microscopic marine organisms called radiolarians, compressed and mineralized over millions of years. Its extraordinary color range comes from iron oxides and other minerals present during formation. It's named after Mooka Creek, where it was first discovered. Aboriginal Australians have used Mookaite for thousands of years as a healing and protective stone.
