Galena is lead sulfide — one of the most abundant lead minerals on Earth and the primary ore of lead. It forms in hydrothermal veins alongside silver, zinc, and copper minerals. Its characteristic cubic crystal structure and bright metallic luster make it immediately recognizable. Galena has been used by humans for over 8,000 years — ancient Egyptians used ground Galena (kohl) as eye makeup, and it was one of the earliest materials used in radio technology. Note: Galena contains lead. Wash hands after handling and keep away from children and pets.
